Blackstone Hotel
National Register of Historic Places
Chicago, IL

Developer Sage Hospitality Resources recently completed a massive renovation of Chicago’s Blackstone Hotel.  The renovation began in the Spring of 2006, with most of the hotel gutted to its skeleton with the exception of the hotel’s historic areas, which have been carefully restored.  The hotel, originally completed in 1910, was designed by Marshall & Fox.  Over the years, this French Beaux Arts-style building has hosted 12 U.S. presidents.

Among the historic areas restored to their original grandeur were the main lobby, the Crystal Ballroom, the Art Hall, the English Room and lower-level barber shop, all of which have been converted into meeting spaces.

Each guest floor has been reconfigured to create entirely new hotel rooms, complete with modern amenities.  In addition, the building received all new plumbing, electrical, heating, cooling and fire protection systems.  Basement levels were reconfigured, creating new mechanical spaces, offices and kitchens.

Recognizing that client comfort is of utmost concern within the hospitality industry, SBS was engaged to provide a post-renovation examination/retro-commissioning of the hotel’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
